CBS News on Thursday announced that she is delivering the floods of her iconic show “60 minutes” for the long interiors Tanya Simon – just weeks after her solution $ 16 million with President Trump.
Simon, the daughter of the late 60 -minute correspondent Bob Simon, has run the news magazine on a temporary basis since Bill Owens suddenly left in April in the middle of a lawsuit from Trump for a controversial interview with Kamala Harris.
She is only the fourth executive manufacturer who led the news magazine since the late 1960s under the direction of Don Hewitt, and the first woman to take on the role.
Her appointment comes while the owner of CBS News Paramount is trying to seal a deal with Skydance Media seeking approval from FCC. Late Thursday, the agency gave the green light in the $ 8.4 billion agreement.
Skydance-Studio Hollywood after big screen hits such as “Mission: Impossible”-makes promises this week for FCC Brendan Carr’s chair that will eliminate Dei’s practices in CBS News and nominate an ombudsman to root media prejudice on the grid.
Trump, meanwhile, boasted that he expects to receive an extra $ 20 million from Skydance in advertising and public service announcements after receiving paramount control, confirming an exclusive report from the post.
This would accumulate at the top of the $ 16 million CBS News payment to repay a lawsuit from Trump for the edited “60 minutes” edited interview with Kamala Harris.
Owens had opposed the settlement of Trump’s lawsuit.
Simons worked in “60 minutes” for 25 years and its appointment was strongly supported by prominent employees.
The seven current correspondents in “60 minutes” – Lesley Stahl, Scott Pelley, Bill Whitaker, Anderson Cooper, Sharyn Alfonsi, Jon Wertheim and Cecilia Vega – signed a letter in May asking Paramount to officially make the executive manufacturer of the show, according to the status newspaper.
“Tanya Simon understands what makes it ’60 minutes,” said Tom Cibrowski, President and Executive Officer of CBS News, in a statement on Thursday.
“She is an innovative leader, an extraordinary manufacturer, and someone who knows how to inspire people.”
Simon has produced for almost all “60 minutes” correspondents during its time on the network, serving as the executive editor of the show for six seasons.
“It is a privilege to lead ’60 minutes” and his scary team of journalists, “Simon said in a statement on Thursday.
“I look forward to giving an exciting signature season 60 stories that cover a wide range of subjects for a wide audience and engage viewers with their world.”
Together with the removal of the DEI policies of the news station, Skydance has also pledged to carry out a CBS comprehensive summary after the Union passes to ensure that the network is operating in the public interest.
Its Ombudsman will remain in the country for at least two years and will report directly to the President of CBS News with “any complaints of prejudice or other concerns”, according to the copies of letters sent to FCC.
Meanwhile, CBS canceled “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” last week-promoting anger from celebrities and other late night hosts, who accused the Akon network of play as part of her solution with Trump.
The network said it was “just a financial decision against a challenging background on the late night.”
